The Division of Mental Health is seeking a skilled Carpenter to perform construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration work at the Elgin Mental Health Center. This position plays a key role in maintaining safe, functional, and efficient facilities for patients and staff. The Carpenter will work in the carpenter shop and at various locations within the center, ensuring all work complies with public health and safety standards.
Essential Responsibilities:

Perform skilled carpentry work related to facility construction, maintenance, and repair.

Fabricate and install cabinetry and perform general cabinet work.

Ensure proper use and safe handling of tools and equipment at worksites and residential areas.

Determine materials and supplies needed for carpentry and cabinet projects.

Adhere to applicable standards from Public Health, Public Aid, HCFA, and ACDO.

Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
-
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
-
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program qualifying as a Journey-level Carpenter.
Conditions of Employment:
-
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access rooftops.
-
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
-
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel as required.
-
Ability to use office equipment, including computers.
-
Must pass a background check and a drug screening in compliance with Illinois Law.
